Our Lawyers - Mike O'Neill

BACKGROUND

Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Michael S. O'Neill is both a cum laude graduate of the University of Western Ontario (1975) and Dalhousie University Law School (1978).

Mr. O'Neill is a former captain of the Soo Greyhounds Junior A Hockey Team, a Hockey Canada Scholarship Award recipient, and member of the Western Mustangs Hockey Team from 1972 to 1975.

Mr. O'Neill was called to the Bar by the Law Society of Upper Canada in April of 1980, and certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in civil litigation consistently since 1992.

Mr. O'Neill served as an Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces, served with the Advocate General's Office, and retired in 1999 as a Major.  He remains a member of the Supplementary Reserve.

Mr. O'Neill was Past President of the Algoma District Law Association, and serves on the Board of the Directors of the Advocate Society.  Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Northern School of Medicine, and sits on the Advancement Committee for that institution.

AREAS OF PRACTICE

As a specialist in civil litigation, Mr. O'Neill specializes in all forms of litigation including insurance, matrimonial, administrative, commercial, and banking law.  He has appeared in all levels of Court including the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Mr. O'Neill has more that 50 cases reported in various legal publications, including a series of jury and non-jury hearings.
